I have been using a term that many of my clients, students, friends, family, and colleagues have heard me say over the years… It is “Force of Awesome!”
I love this term! It’s a little bodacious mixed with action and getting down to business!
I used to run leadership development cohorts at a Fortune 100 company. In our final cohort session, as a celebration of the work and development each person had gone through, I would make a point to tell them that they are a Force of Awesome and the world needs them to be a Force of Awesome! It motivated them and provide validation to them that they are indeed a Force of Awesome and they can be that!
Now… I’ve received some questions and eyebrows raised from this statement, pointing me to give y’all a little explanation.
What is a Force of Awesome?
A Force of Awesome is simply you being exactly who you are meant to be! It’s you showing up 100% authentically to the identity and values that you hold deeply at your core and letting all of the rest fall secondary. It’s you moving forward with yourself and others in bold and courageous ways that have positive impacts on the world around you. It’s you being a raging curiosity to others because of your humble confidence in yourself and compassion for others. It’s you being a beacon of light that attracts the influence of others around you. It’s you constantly renewing your mind, growing and unfolding into the person you are meant to be.
It’s not allowing others that don't have your best interest in mind to tell you who you are. It’s not the world dictating what you ought to be. It’s not you always on the run and doing. It’s not you feeling worried about what others think and say. It’s not you thinking about the 1,000 what-if scenarios.
Because you know that ultimately you are a unique individual, with unique gifts and talents, with a unique perspective, with a unique ability to care, with a unique calling to be who you are meant to be, with a unique situation. You are the "key" and "light" to so many situations!
That is being a Force of Awesome!
It’s Hard and It’s Good!
Now, I honestly have many days where I don’t feel like a Force of Awesome. I get too much into my head. I also spent much of my teenage years and twenties with me not being a Force of Awesome. I come from a Jewish and Holocaust survivors’ background and grew up in a place where there is a history of antisemitism and racism and where almost no Jewish people lived. I also follow Jesus. Reconciling these different facets in my life has been difficult and has at times made me think that I’m not much in life. However, I have realized that through the suffering, none of it is wasted. I am able to show up in life using these unique experiences as my super powers if you will. And we all have unique circumstances to our lives that we must reconcile to be the Force of Awesome! It is continuous.
What I have learned in the process of being a Force of Awesome and motivating others to do the same, is that it starts right where you are with a little bit of sunshine finding its way through a crack. Nothing good in life is easy.
You trust it and move forward in it. No matter the circumstances.
You are always a force of awesome and the world needs you!
How have you seen someone be a Force of Awesome? Please share what you have seen so that we can learn and grow together!
Go be a force of awesome!
Let’s go!!!
