If I’m being honest… I am surprised, but not that surprised of how easy it is for myself to get distracted on the hot topic of the moment.
It is sometimes very difficult for myself to stay focused on the task at hand that is aligned to a great purpose. (How about you?)
Let’s keep going… I like short-term wins. Dang it! I like to get that instant gratification that our society so enjoys today! Did I say that out loud?! Arrghh!
HUMBLING TO ADMIT:
This is super humbling to admit… especially because I am an executive coach.
In fact, I coach some of the highest performers around the planet.
And… here I am not anything near being perfect or having it ALL figured out. I struggle just as much as the person next to me. Here is the deal. I have a big old fear that if my clients really knew how disorganized and idealistic I really am, that they would ditch me in an instant.
IF THEY ONLY KNEW:
I used to have this belief that if they only knew that I want a little cake and to eat it (gosh I hate that saying), then they would get rid of me.
But, so far, this logic has proven to be not logical at all!
It has not proven itself to be true.
However, it makes pretty good sense in my head. Doesn’t it? Well, it has not yet happened.
PERFECTLY… IMPERFECT:
You see, all of us want to be seen, belong, and be loved.
And that does not leave out those professionals in the world that people seem to believe have it all together. CEOs, VPs, presidents, clergy, business owners, coaches, speakers, newscasters, etc. are people with the need to be seen, belong, and loved.
Here is my point. You are never alone in your thoughts and feelings.
Have you ever thought about raising your hand to ask a question, but are too afraid to ask it, and then someone else raises their hand and asks the same or similar question?
I love it when a speaker tells their audience to ask the question because someone else is probably thinking of the same question.
We have this need to make sense of everything.
You see… when a client and I are in relationship with one another and we have created a safe space for them to do their hard work to develop their abilities as a person to lead well, then it opens up space for us all to be vulnerable.
One of the biggest schemes of evil there is today is a belief that we are all alone with our thoughts, habits, tendencies, and consequences. That there cannot possibly be anyone else with this dumb tendency that is so darn annoying! Can’t you see the cartoon devil laughing at us?
Here is what I know about this… this dark force is trying to keep all of us small. It is trying to rob us from actually living out of our strengths and providing new gifts for the world. It is trying to keep us from knowing that we can make a positive difference.
Here is another thing I know about this… when we choose to be perfectly imperfect, we get to open a crack of light into the darkness. We get to provide an ever-increasing hope and space that generates new possibilities. When we lean into the discomfort and lift our hand or our voice, we provide more than words or actions. We provide belief and hope!
So what do you think about this? When was a time (good or bad) that you were perfectly imperfect? Provide your thoughts below in the comments so we can learn from each other.
Go be a force of awesome! Let’s go!
